I'll just say this can get confused with cocci. It is always good to take in a stool sample when ever your dogs are having some issues that could be linked to something else you could lose a whole litter because of a miss diagnoses!

No. If you have equipment at home you can diagnose it yourself you just need to know what your looking for not just a parasite but a specific one. They also have the kits to do it yourself in the books also so no they don't have to be diagnosed by a vet. You'll also find a lot of old breeders making their own diagnoses from experience which is how some lost pups. If you don't have the stool kit and microscope you need a vet!
