| I used Diamond for awhile a few years ago and I didn't see much difference in the dogs coat, amount of stool or how much they ate with the purina one I had been feeding. | |

| How to grade your dog's food: Start with a grade of 100:
1) For every listing of "by-product", subtract 10 points
2) For every non-specific animal source ("meat" or "poultry", meat, meal or fat) reference, subtract 10 points
3) If the food contains BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin, subtract 10 points
4) For every grain "mill run" or non-specific grain source, subtract 5 points
5) If the same grain ingredient is used 2 or more times in the first five ingredients (i.e. "ground brown rice", "brewerâ?Ts rice", "rice flour" are all the same grain), subtract 5 points
6) If the protein sources are not meat meal and there are less than 2 meats in the top 3 ingredients, subtract 3 points
7) If it contains any artificial colorants, subtract 3 points
8 ) If it contains ground corn or whole grain corn, subtract 3points
9) If corn is listed in the top 5 ingredients, subtract 2 morepoints
10) If the food contains any animal fat other than fish oil, subtract 2 points
11) If lamb is the only animal protein source (unless your dog is allergic to other protein sources), subtract 2 points
12) If it contains soy or soybeans, subtract 2 points
13) If it contains wheat (unless you know that your dog isnâ?Tt allergic to wheat), subtract 2 points
14) If it contains beef (unless you know that your dog isnâ?Tt allergic to beef), subtract 1 point
15) If it contains salt, subtract 1 point
Extra Credit:
1) If any of the meat sources are organic, add 5 points
2) If the food is endorsed by any major breed group or nutritionist, add 5 points
3) If the food is baked not extruded, add 5 points
4) If the food contains probiotics, add 3 points
5) If the food contains fruit, add 3 points
6) If the food contains vegetables (NOT corn or other grains), add 3 points
7) If the animal sources are hormone-free and antibiotic-free, add 2 points
8 ) If the food contains barley, add 2 points
9) If the food contains flax seed oil (not just the seeds), add 2 points
10) If the food contains oats or oatmeal, add 1 point
11) If the food contains sunflower oil, add 1 point
12) For every different specific animal protein source (other than the first one; count "chicken" and "chicken meal" as only one protein source, but "chicken" and "" as 2 different sources), add 1 point
13) If it contains glucosamine and chondroitin, add 1 point
14) If the vegetables have been tested for pesticides and are pesticide-free, add 1 point

| I recently bought Innova Evo, love it! I wont feed Diamond or black gold, dont like it, but to each their own..lol Thanks to Jessica I found my favorite dog food! I also made Satin Balls last night (messy, and I hate the smell of molasses) but the dogs seem to like it, I hope they continue to like it cause I've got a freezer full of it..lol! |

| MY dogs get very precise measured amounts of food and it will vary according to work loads and how they do with it. For example during the winter we feed 4 level measured cups of food each day with multivitamin, Raw egg and a few other things. The dogs get weighed every 5-7 days and a desired weight is maintained. For Rebel it was 60-61lbs during the winter, about 5lbs over what he competes at. When he is weighed if I see him falling under then he get a half a cup of food more, if he is gaining half a cup less. Believe it or not 1/2 a cup can really change their weight as to what the metabolize. Now that the season is under way we go back to 3 cups a day and excerise. Once we have reached our target weight,(TW=weight at which the dog is leanest/strongest WITHOUT losing muscle) then I feed accordingly to maintain that weight. Rebel is currently 57lbs and that is where I am going to hold him. I can dry him out the night before a show and bring him in on the scales at 55lbs, the bottom of his class where I want him. Here recently I have really really been conditioning the dogs so as Im weighing them now every 3 days when I began to see the weight drop some due to the increase in work, I increased the food accordingly. As far as kibble and raw yess we do more of that as the season gets under way. I like to get them high protein sources straight from meat 2 weeks before a show I increase their protein intake considerably, usually by using raw liver, very good for them! Also you can add B-12 and B-15 but if you dont know what your doing I wouldnt give it through injections. | |

| i have fed raw but was told not to mix it with kibble because the benefit of it wouldn't exist with kibble mixed! I feed raw because the kibble blew out the dogs coat and the other had hot spots and raw cleared it up. If your having skin issues let me know and I'll post a really good link on the raw diet and info on it. |

| I've recently made the switch to Diamond. I'm on about the 5th bag and I can already notice the difference and I'm pleased. They seem to feel alot better and their coats have improved both in appearance as well as "texture".
All dogs respond differently to different types of food so I'd say try a few different brands until you find one that works for you.

Exactly how would adding raw to kibble not benefit? How would kibble take away from the raw food? That doesnt make any sense to me? Its not like just because I use kibble its going to form a chemical reaction with raw food and neutralize all the proteins and fat in the raw.

| I have fed many different feeds from Science Diet, Eukanuba, Pro Plan, Diamond (maintance, lamb and rice) Nutro, Cannidea, IAMS, you name it I have tried it.
Every single food that I have tried never amounted up to what Nutro has done for them. Less stools, harder stools, shinier coats, etc. I changed from Nutro to Diamond Natural Lamb and Rice and my dogs ate almost 3 times as much as what they ate of Nutro, they lost weight, they had runny stools the whole time (it never hardened), and their coats were looking horrible. I promised myself and to my dogs that I wont ever change again. I'll stick to Nutro.

| I used nutro and got the opposite results, lol It's odd how we can all feed something different and come up with different results but it happens. You have to stick with what suits your dogs, everyone in the world can make recommendations, but you can only use what makes your dogs maintain the weight, energy levels, and coat appearance that is right for them. Not every dog is the same, so sometimes, if you have one dog that is off a little, you may have to change just that dogs food. Perks of owning more than one dog. | |
