| What type of keep or exercise programs does anyone use in preparation for shows or what type of feeding program do you use? | |

| I'm getting ready to put a couple of my dogs in some shows and was just curious what some do in order to prepare/condition their dogs? What is the normal entry fee, as you can tell this is my first show so I'm trying to find out the basics. It doesn't give you the entry fee on the ADBA event calendar. Can anyone recommend any links to get some good show collars and leads? | |

| In the ADBA the entry fee is $18 per dog per event. At least it was last year. Collars have to be the buckle type, no choke collars, And you have to have a leash no longer than 4 ft. I have the 2ft leashes. They work well and give you good control of your dog. Also you can help them stand once you learn how to handle them. As far as keeps go, the key to conditioning is finding the balance between lean muscle and losing muscle. You dont want to lose but you have to get it leaned out. Alot of people really increase the diet when they are working hard, especially the protein, this way you can work them but keep the muscle, really adds definition. mill work and handwalking are the best espically combined with some drag walking. I have come up with my own "keep" per say but these can help you get started. Now remember a "keep" is used to get a dog ready for a pit fight so when reading these keeps, keep that in mind. Also you dont have to get so technicall into all the shots, B12 and all, if you dont know what your doing you can really hurt a dog. Read the conditioning and feeding/nutrition sections. Thats where you will learn the most. As you can see ALOT of work goes into these dogs. The old dogmen werent like the guys of today, they invested WAY to much into their dogs to mistreat them weather they won or lost. http://www.gamedogs.com/keeps.htm | |

| I have plenty of info on keeps and have come up with a remedy of my own that has been working for me. I'm just curious what others may use or what "advice" per say others may have to offer. I'm very familiar with working a dog but never bothered to put them in any type of show until now. Our kennel partener out of Jersey has sent us a male that is about 35 points from his championship and I'm trying to finish it for him. With my work schedule I can only get days off until Memorial Day and then I'm stuck here at work until after Labor Day. I'm a vacation specialist, so summer shows are out of the question for me. Oldfort do you have any links to where I can get some show collars and leashes? Thanks for the info. | |

| Here is a link to some of the most well put together collars around. I haven't fond a stronger good looking set of hardware better than these.
I currently have two of 2" 4ply pitbull collars, two of the 1.5" 4ply show collars, and three of the 2" triple ply collars with double keepers and velcro ends, and a wp harness. I recommend these product highly. Not to mention the great prices! http://www.stillwaterkennels.com/dogcollers.htm

| I too agree. I have ordered from their before but since this is my first entry, I just want to make sure the collars meet regulations. Can someone post a pic of the leashes they use in the shows? | |

| All of his collars can be used at the shows. If you scroll down to the bottom of that page he also has the leads too (for the shows). | |

| The smallest i see on is site is a size 10" which is pretty small, so you could probably fit a pup.
Its the tripple ply 1"collar with double keepers.
