Dogs often have stomach problems from time to time. You may see your dog eating grass more than usual. This eating grass is a sign your dog has stomach problems and wants to throw up. Dog stomach problems can be caused by many things from illness to nerves to a lack of food in the stomach. To help your dog feel better consider some of the tips below to ease your dogs stomach problems. If stomach problems persist see your vet immediately.

Pepto Bismol Tablets

My dog is eating grass…. Some dogs eat grass just to graze. Most dogs will eat grass because they have an upset stomach. Pepto Bismol tablets are awesome for an upset stomach. Follow the small child dose on the bottle. The dosage is usually one Pepto for your dog unless your dog is a toy size. Consult your vet for toy size or dosage questions, if the dog is vomiting blood or if this continues for more than one day.

My dog has diarrhea…. Pepto Bismol is a fairly quick fix for diarrhea. Follow the small child dose. Dosage is usually one Pepto for your dog unless your dog is a toy size. Consult your vet for toy size or dosage questions, if the diarrhea contains blood or if the diarrhea continues for more than one day.

Pepcid AC - excellent for acidy stomachs. If your dog pukes up bile (the yellow liquid mixed with mucus) the Pepcid will calm the dogs stomach in a short period of time.

Tums - Tums can be used to calm your dogs stomach. They are not as effective as Pepto or Pepcid.

Non medication treatment – use 97-99% lean ground beef and white rice. Prepare rice and allow to cool to room temperature. Boil beef on the stove top. While beef is boiling continue to skim the fat and oil from the top. Drain and rinse in hot water to remove any additional fat or grease. Mix with rice, allow to cool to room temperature and serve. Boiled beef and rice is usually given for 2-3 days to allow the dogs intestinal tract to calm down.

If you are gonna take the time to cook for your dog you should use brown rice instead of white. Brown rice is healthier has more vitamins and minerals in it.
