I'm starting to see something here!

Okay, earlier I went to Petsmart, had to get more dog food. I took Medusa along with me. Everyone loved her, gave me compliments on her. But then as I would walk past someones dog, I would ask if I could pet it...then out of NO where I would start examining the dog....lmao I would look at the dogs stop and everything, actually caught my self lifting its lips so that I could see its teeth to see what kind of a bite it had....lmao I think the board is wearing off on me!! Personally the dog that I did that to only got a 5....lmao!

Yep you've got the bug! That's how it starts and yep it's funny to you when you find yourself doing it lol. That's a good thing though. Since you can now do that you know you won't end up with less then you really want!

Earlier I was buzzing around the house looking at my dogs teeth, seeing if they all went to a scissor(sp) bite or not..They all did except for Medusa, she has a serious under bite and that I believe would be a serious fault if I were showing her! Then I got to watching each dogs gate when they walked..bones is awesome! I love that classy bounce he has when he walks...like he is saying "yeah I've got class, and I know it" lol

I cant wait to start showing...and doing weight pull...when I was at petsmart I would see medium sized dogs, and I'm thinking "nope to weak" Was thinking weight pull there. Then I got to looking at their backs, I was asking myself "did they look strong and even or did they dip down or do they have to much of a hump....yup I'm ready and cant wait to show!!!

No, i dont go that far.... I mean, My dog is my buddy and i dont care if he has over/under bite, "gay tail" or the wrong gait.... He is my pet and my buddy.... It shouldnt matter how "perfect" the dog is, as of standard, All that matters is how much you love your dog....
And i'll be honest with ya's... It really doesnt feel that great when people start and point out differences.... If someone came to me and started screwing with my dogs mouth, I would be like WTF??? Harley aint show material, But he is more to me then anything (other then the kids)

OMG you take everything out of context Pantera! She is learning this stuff to help herself pick a show dog! Your dogs are just as you said pets!! She isn't looking for pet quality just show so if she's trying to learn why knock her. It is going to the extreme looking in someone else's dog mouth. I let folks look at my dogs but i don't let them go all in their mouth unless we are at a show, for one because they may not like it for two I don't trust the intentions of most!

No... Actually Pantera is going to be show... I have to wait for shows to come to me, cuz i need a passport to leave the country... Oh americans can come here without one, But we cant go there..
Maybe she should get a book on it.... some people are sensitive about that stuff...

Personally if you get that offensive you shouldn't show. Folks are gonna point out every lil thing and if you get that weak you'll be in tears the first show! Rayne got chewed the heck up and I didn't cry cause I knew why I purchased her and what her faults were already. Get some back bone or go home is what your gonna get told!!

Dang Pantera why you rippin on me? I didnt post that to start a fight with you. When I was at the pet store, I asked whom ever it was if I could pet their dog first. I just didnt walk up to the animal and open its mouth as wide as it could go. I basically lifted its lips, and I didnt even realize that I had done it till I was looking at the teeth...lol

I guess I could of gotten a book on it, hey thats no big deal there. My dogs are pets as well, but I gotta learn some how....I cant just think im gonna walk into a show ring and blow everyone away, because with that kind of attitude I wont. I ask questions to better myself, to learn...and if I dont then I never will.

I'll tell ya the show sierra took her first major after the judge gave it to me another called me to the side. She said personally I wouldn't ahve given it to your dog cause you handled her horribly!! Ok I could have gotten upset and nasty but her point was to help me by letting me know what the heck i did wrong. She told me I was popping the lead making her have jerky movement but it wasn't actually me popping the lead it was the kind of collar I had on her. I had to go get a nylon because she didn't like the sound the metal one made every time I pulled to let her know the direction we were going she jumped! People will give ya tips and insult your dogs rather you want them to or not and in most cases it's just so you know, they aren't meaning to actually insult you but make you aware of different things that you may not have been aware of. It only makes you better and stronger being able to accept their critique!

So when you show redsky, do you use a nylon collar or a choke collar?

I use Nylon for sierra I'll get some pics of the stuff i have for show in a bit and post them. I was using a gold metalic one for her but she lost it so i got a regular metalic one and she started with the jerky stuff so went nylon after Amy let me use hers in Laporte and she reacted better to it.

Redsky could you make a thread on the basics of showing dogs for us who want to learn! You don't have to give your secrets away but just the basics for an ideal!

Ok this is what i have:



from left to right first is the longer lead I was gonna use on sierra but I don't like the material it is so i don't use it, next is the lead I use for both sierra and my pups (you'll find this is the one that most all the handlers are using) next is the metalic show choke i use for the pups (they are getting big so need to get a bigger one now lol) next is the nylon choke i have been using on Sierra, next is the a metalic one I got for sierra but don't use will probably use this with the pups so long as they don't get nervous of the sound to and finally is a choke lead in one that I got for the pups but don't use cause I haven't seen anyone else use that type in the actual ring (yes folks look at you funny for being different and I don't want them and the judges having a good laugh on my behalf lol btw the pups have chewed it to crap anyways lol).

MY A$$...... Sorry, but you are one smart lady and it seems like you have been doing for years!!!!! WOW!!!!!

trust me i got a lot of learning to go! I am really not that good at it but getting there. I won't give up till I can do it in my sleep . We can all get there with a lil work though just always remember to have an opinion mind!
