PostSubject: Spring pole and the criple dog   Spring pole and the criple dog Icon_minitimeMon Apr 30, 2007 6:25 am

ehe.. yeah.. i got bored today and started gathering up rope and springs and rags with the idea to make a toy for Cindi because she is being a major butt head, chewing and dragging things off, and stealing stuff, and bringing home people's shoes... i figured if she had her own special toy that tugged back she would be content.
well i half @$$ed rigged a spring and some ropes between two large trees and hooked an old rag to the spring.
".....not interest...." she said. so i took the rag off and danglde it in front of her nose and said get it... "Get what?" that nacky ole thang? Get it yourself..." Well. i tried dragging it on the ground like you would do with a cat and a piece of string.... she mouthed at it half heartedly then rolled over and said "Rub my belly."
Fine. I'd had it. I went over to Kaydee and turned her loose. Took her to the twin trees and showed her the rag. Kaydee tore into it like she was some kind of pro! She hobble around the tree to the other side to get a better grip. she actually jumped up to hang onto it and then just hung there going "grrr... errrr....err...." until the rag ripped apart and she fell off it.

Kaydee has never showed too much interest in playing tug-o-war, at least not with me... my husband claims she plays tug with him but i've never seen it. I reconnected the rag and shook it and said get it and she got it!
Cindi looked at her like she had lost her mind at first, then she tried to join in, but was turned off from Kaydee saying grr.
I went inside to get my husband and show him and he was impressed, but not much. like i said, his comment is "She plays like that all the time.."
yeah well i'm WITH HER all the time.... and i've never seen her tug on anything. "Really?" he says..... then he started to act a little impressed. By this point Kaydee was tired from the first two rounds with the rag, so she wasnt too interested in going after it again.... until my husband accidentally swung the rag back and forth by letting go.. then Kaydee nailed it again.

And Cindi could still care less Neutral
As soon as we can manage it i want to build a better set up and then get some REAL lures for the dogs. i also need to come up with a better way to attach the spring to the rope and to the lure. which probably means i need a different kind of spring.

i'll try to take some pictures tomorrow if Kaydee is feeling up to playing again. my thought is this might help her build some muscle mass back in her rear legs, like resistance training. and maybe Cindi will take some interest in it by then as well....
anyone got some ideas on getting her to do that? she likes toys, she likes shredding stuff, she has an ancient old football she runs around with shaking the crap out of....

yeah i want to get a hide but this time of year i dont know how other than buying one. i might have to do that and just let the dogs wear it out till deer season comes around again. then i'll ask my dad if he will save the deer hides for me.
...tell me though, would that be a good idea? my dogs are all wormed, and i imagine a fresh deer hide wouldnt last long with a pack of bulldogs anyway, but are there any health risks i should be aware of? like deer diseases that dogs can get. i already know about deer ticks. has anyone ever used a fresh hide before? i figure once it dries out it will last longer and the dogs will still want to play with it.

This may take some time but a sure fire way to get her amped to do this would be to tie her up right by the springpole just were she cant get it then let the other dog play with it right in frot of her she will get to where she cant wait to get that rope but like i said it will take a bit but it has worked for me with every dog i have here is some video of a couple my dogs on the springpole

no ones missing a leg lol not yet anyway.... affraid
Kaydee is still recovering from having both hind legs paralyzed. she walks around like a drunk puppy from muscle atrophy, but at least she is walking.
Cindi is not showing much interest in the spring pole, but she did want to eat an old tether ball we have lying around. it needs a new rope but the ball is still in great shape, and i cant see a reason to let a pit bull pop it lol if i didnt have kids then i would let her go for it. but Cindi could care less for playing tug with some old rags.. i definately need some better bait.
