| Alright guys, I'm not an expert but I'm having a problem with one of my dogs. She's not biting but she's a serious jumper. I didn't get her till April of this year, and she wasn't doing it then. She didn't start acting stupid until after we bred her, and her litter hit the ground. Now she's lost all mentality and ability to listen to a !!!!! command.
The biggest problem is she's jumpin on the kids, I don't tolerate that crap at all. She weighs 75lbs and she knocks them over easily. I don't want to have to get rid of her but I just won't tolerate it. She gets time to roam free almost everyday, and she lays around most of the time and does nothing, so she's not a hyper active dog, just gets really excited when the kids are around.
Thanks for any input.

| Michelle the best thing I can tell you is when she does that correct her right then! Loud no or how ever you correct, if that's not working beat her butt!! I show my kids how to knee them when they go up to jump of course my youngest two can't do it affectively but they still know lol. |

| Make sure the kids understand to knee them not kick. Mine thought kneeing and kicking was all the same in the beginning butt the dogs learned dang I don't wanna mess with that kid lol. |

| I know alot of people aren't fans of shock collars but it would work wonders in this situation.
Without that you could keep her on a leash and when she begins to jump SNATCH her to the ground with a firm NO. Also while your kids may not be able to do this you can, a firm knee to the chest when they jump up works good too. Not saying ram your knee in them just raise it and let them hit it when they try to jump on you. Gracie used to have this problem, the knee fixed it, followed by NO of course.

| The shock collars work great! Hemi went thru a round with one, and I haven't had to use the zap for a month now, All i have to do is beep it. He had a bad habbit of jumping and just plain not listening. He would ignore me something terrible. All that has been solved now. He listens the first time i tell him and no longer jumps. Hemi is also about 75lbs. and can knock over a grown man when he jumps cause he put all his weight into it, its more like pushing then jumping....lol If you get the collar, make sure to get the one with the CD with instructions on the correct way to use it. If you use it wrong it will do more harm than good. My best friend, a trainer, showed me how and the collar is very effective. | |

| Thanks guys, I'm going to work on both methods. I've been thinking of picking up a shock collar for her for quite some time now. While people think its cruel, I really don't care. I don't want to get rid of my dog, and I need something that will teach her a lesson. lol | |

| Also you could try a No Jump Harness, it restricts the use of the rear legs...Medusa is finding out the easy way that I dont like her jumping on me, my brothers dog bubby (Mr. Bubbalious to me) is finding out the hard way....he also got zapped a few times from a shock collar...you should of seen his face it was like |

| just make sure with the E collar you have someone who knows how to use it correctly show you how to use it. if its used wrong it can have bad results on the dog. also, be aware that some dogs when corrected with an e collar can redirect, same with a prong collar, some dogs just cant use them . | |

Thank you so much for your information, it was more helpful than anyone else's here, yes yes spaying my dog would surely solve the problem, and I wouldn't have anymore right? (sense the sarcasm here?) As far as spaying her, no she will be bred once more and then spayed, there are quite a few breeders here and I don't think they appreciate your opinion either, if you have bad opinions about breeding find somewhere else to go. You will continue to get the same responses if not. Chow! Anyways, we have been working with Zoe, and she's actually doing alot better, I just tell her NO firmly pop her nose, and she sits (or rolls over on her back whichever she prefers) I kneed her a couple of times, and she seemed to respond like I hurt her feelings, so I guess it got her attention. | |
